What Makes a Great Car Dealership?

Choosing a car dealership to work with on your next new or used vehicle purchase is a big deal. You want to know that the partner you choose is trustworthy, reliable, and is looking out for you every step of the way. While great products and a slick show room are nice to see, the real value of a good dealership lies in it’s principles, and how those play out in action.

Responsiveness - How responsive a dealership is, is a great barometer of how your overall experience is going to unfold. Things like promptly answering the phone, actively greeting you when you come in the door, and responding to your inquiries over the website are not just great customer service, they’re cornerstones of how a company does business. A good dealership will make sure not to keep you waiting, and will ensure you feel valued.

Convenience - Modern dealerships, like ours, offer conveniences like a drive-through service bay, and shuttle services to get you where you need to go after dropping off your car. We have that and more! You’ll be welcomed to a comfortable lounge area complete with television, wi-fi, coffee and cold drinks, and even a café if you’re feeling peckish. Our lounge also includes a dedicated kid’s area, so your little ones will be in heaven.

Display - A good dealership will also have a wide selection of vehicles for you to choose from, on display and easily accessible on our lot and in our showroom. Cleanliness is key, and we pride ourselves on the tidiness and appearance of our dealership, because we know you do, too.

Teamwork - Our dealership works as a team to make your experience as pleasant and satisfying as possible. A good team has confidence, and their activities have purpose. Everyone you meet at our dealership, in the process of looking at new vehicle, has this in mind and our end goal is to provide an amazing customer experience.

Dynamic – Dealerships that adopt new tools and systems have the upper hand in the competitive vehicle industry. We integrate cutting edge technology, and best practice systems at our dealership - and by re-inventing ourselves every day, you see the best customer service, experience better outcomes, and top-notch service and repair.

Reputation – In the car business, your reputation is your future. What others have to say is always on our mind, and now, more than ever, you have many online options to speak your mind. As a top rated dealership, we have a Google Rating of 4.3/5 with over 1,400 online reviews. We do our best with each individual customer because we value your patronage and know that our reputation is the most important tool we have.

Road Trips Around Calgary

Everyone loves a good road trip, but do you know all the great sites Alberta has to offer besides Banff? Banff is unquestioningly beautiful, but there’s so much more within a few hours of the city that you just have to see. There are tons of beautiful towns, historic sites, and natural area’s that will make you gasp in awe or giggle with excitement, let’s explore a few together.

Waterton Lakes National Park

3 Hours From Calgary

Waterton is definitely a sight to behold, and is one of Alberta’s most picturesque National Parks. From Waterton, you can take in the Prairies and the Mountains at the same time, with amazing scenery everywhere you look. There’s tons to do in the Park, and you could spend days exploring every nook and cranny.

Royal Tyrell Museum of Palaeontology

1.5 Hours From Calgary

The Royal Tyrell Museum is situated in Drumheller, and there’s no better place to explore epic beasts from the past. The building houses one of the worlds largest collections of dinosaur skeletons, as well as a variety of other long-ago creatures. The museum is seated in the heart of the Alberta badlands, where you can hunt for fossils, and explore this beautiful landscape. It will take you about three hours to explore the museum, and we guarantee you’ll love every minute!

Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump

1.75 Hours From Calgary

There is a UNESCO World Heritage Site less than two hours from Calgary – and it is called Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. This means it’s among wonders of the world like the pyramids and Stonehenge. While a little less flashy, you can explore exhibits in a museum built right into the cliff to minimize disturbance to the site, and explore the features out side as well – walking on trails and taking in the beautiful scenery. You’ll want to pretend you an ancient hunter, we know we did.

Frank Slide Interpretive Centre

2.25 Hours From Calgary

Back in 1903, the side literally fell off a mountain. That’s right, THE SIDE FELL OFF A MOUNTAIN. It buried an entire town and spread enormous boulders over the entire landscape for miles. Most of the town is still buried to this day, and the Frank Slide Interpretive Center will teach you all about this disaster, and what sealed the fate of this small mountain town. There are other attractions close by, such as Lundbreck Falls and an abandoned coal mine that offers tours.

Dinosaur Provincial Park

2.25 Hours From Calgary

Also a UNESCO World Heritage site, Dinosaur Provincial Park is amazing, and offers a multitude of hiking trails and unique rock features only found in the park. You might even get luck and find a fossil while you enjoy a picnic in Alberta’s famous Badlands. If you’re heading to the Royal Tyrell Museum, you want to leave ample room to explore this amazing site as well, you won’t be disappointed.

GM Self Driving Cars Set for 2019

This year, GM will put self driving cars into production. The car is a standard Chevy Bolt with a few notable changes. Most apparent, this vehicle has no pedals or steering wheel! There’s also a LIDAR array on top of the vehicle which allows it to drive completely without human input. This won’t be your standard family car. Instead, GM plans to start a commercial service centered around the unique vehicle. Commuter’s will be able to hail a ride with an app, and the vehicles will pick them up and take them to their destination just like a taxi – except without a driver to have awkward small talk with.

This exceptional vehicle is known as the Cruise AV, and it will be produced at GM’s Orion Township plant in Michigan along side the increasingly infamous Bolt EV it is based upon.On the roof are a series of modules containing the bulk of the hardware required for driverless transport including LIDAR, radar, and a multitude of cameras. These components will be manufactured at GM’s Brownstown plant, also in Michigan, and where GM produces fuel cell stacks and batteries.

“Our Orion and Brownstown teams have proven experience in building high quality self-driving test vehicles and battery packs, so they are well prepared to produce the Cruise AV.” Said GM president Dan Ammann. “We’re continuing to make great progress on our plans to commercialize in 2019”.

One thing is for sure – GM is committed to the commercialization of self driving vehicles. It’s not yet been announced which locations the Cruise AV will first service, but a list of US candidates include downtown San Francisco, Scottsdale Arizona, and Warren, Michigan. Prototypes will also be tested soon in Manhattan.

One of the big hurdles to this plan becoming a reality is getting US Federal approval that will allow the Cruise AV onto public streets, transporting human passengers. This is a much more difficult process for self-driving cars because safety standards were written and legislated long before such technical possibilities were even thought of, let alone attainable. The Cruise AV demands a whole new paradigm of thinking about safety, and lack of a steering wheel and pedals is a major stumbling block. Even with Federal approval, State approval in the US is still required as well.

According to the plan, the fleet of vehicles will either be operated by GM, or by partnering with an existing ride share company. Although, GM has launched a limited ride-share service called Cruise Anywhere, currently limited only to employees of Cruise Automation, which was acquired by GM in 2016.

Vehicles are currently limited to certain geographic area’s based on sufficient map data. For the moment, vehicles are also not capable of traversing certain weather conditions such as heavy snow – so it will probably be a while until we see this sort of tech in Canada. The end goal of all this, however, is to produce a vehicle capable of handling anything the world could throw at a human driver.

While you’re waiting for self-driving vehicles to come into the mainstream, you can check out all the vehicles at CMP Auto, including Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC models, and featuring the electric Chevrolet Bolt, the model the Cruise AV is based on. Come on in to see us at 1313 – 36 Street NE, or give us a call at (403) 207-1000 today.

Electric Cars are Becoming More and More Popular – Here’s Why

Electric cars have been an increasing focus of many vehicle manufacturers for a while now, and there’s lots of reasons why. Electric vehicles have been the holy grail of environmentalists since the 70’s.

Environmental Sustainability

With widespread worries about climate change leading political discussion all over the world, electric vehicles may be the key to a sustainable future, and a clean environment for generations to come. Because electric vehicles produce no emissions, they are naturally much cleaner that conventional internal combustion engines. Getting off fossil fuels and switching to electric makes vehicles dependent on the electrical grid rather than the gasoline or diesel each vehicle carries. This paves the way for renewables such as solar and wind to power the bulk of electric vehicles in the future.

Beyond the obvious environmental benefits, electric vehicles also allow for considerable performance and range improvements. Originally, electric vehicles were slow, underpowered and didn’t have enough battery capacity for long distance travel. High price tags to go electric were also barriers to making the transition.

Performance and Range Improvements

Since electric first came onto the scene, huge strides have been made to address these challenges. Infrastructure such as charging stations have increased dramatically, and users can now travel long distances throughout most of North America, China and Europe.

Improvements in battery performance mean electrics can now travel hundreds of miles on a single charge, and conveniently located charging stations mean electric vehicles can now take you pretty much anywhere you’ll need to go.

Government Support

A few countries have shown interest in phasing out conventional fossil fuel vehicles. In Europe, the UK and France plan to have all electric vehicles on their roads by 2040, and in Asia, China has voiced a desire to follow suit. Some other Governments have even put quotas on electric vehicle manufacturing, pushing for a certain percentage of new cars made to be electric. In Canada, BC and Quebec currently offer incentives for going electric as well.

Lower Cost Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicles are getting cheaper every day. Not only are electric vehicles really cheap on a day-to-day basis, but the initial price tag to buy one is also dropping. In conjunction, recent years have seen a multitude of new electric vehicles come on the market from tons of manufacturers.

Chevrolet Bolt EV

The Chevy Bolt is a great example of a cutting edge electric vehicle. The Bolt is the first affordable EV with a 383 km range. It is technologically advanced, and stands out in a crowd. The Bolt also requires less maintenance that conventional gas vehicles, doing away with oil changes and requiring only tire rotations, fluid top-ups, and air filter changes periodically.

The Bolt remains as advanced as conventional vehicle’s in terms of safety, including optional Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, and Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking. These days, in an electric vehicle, you’ll find all the comforts you’re used to.

Go Electric at CMP Auto

With so many advantages over conventional gas vehicles, it’s no wonder electrics are picking up pace and grabbing market share quickly. Chevy’s Bolt EV is available at CMP Auto, 1313 - 36 Street NE. Come in and visit us, or give us a call at (403) 207-1000. We can’t wait to hear from you!

Extra, Extra! The XT4 is here!

This small SUV from Cadillac is a prime example of how vehicles should be made. It is also one of the best answers to the European and Asian small luxury SUV market with its modern engine, high-quality interior, up-to-date, yet instantly recognizable Cadillac design and much more. Let’s have a closer look at one of the best small SUV options available on the market.

Design of the Cadillac XT4

There is no way the XT4 will not be recognized as a Cadillac by anyone who has seen a modern Cadillac. There are three distinctive trims available. The base one is called Luxury and it really merits the name, while the top two are Premium Luxury and Sport. They are at the same level of pricing, but differ in direction. For example, the Sport has distinctive sporty wheels and black exterior trim, aiming more for aggression than elegance.

Still, even the base model gets standard LED headlights and DLRs of very distinctive shape, sculpted hood and generally angular design. Looking from the side, the headlights emphasize the upright design of the front fascia. Similarly, the rear is also sharp, while the side view of the doors reveals a more understated shape with gentle arches.

Taillights are also upright and LED on the two higher trims. The rear is also adorned with a prominent diffuser with, you’ve guessed it, angular dual exhaust tips.

Interior of the Cadillac XT4

The interior of the XT4 is even more beautiful and this is where we can see that the designers aimed more at premium feel than sporty styling. Trim options include wood, with metallic or carbon fiber on the Sport. Soft touch materials and exposed stitching combined with modern design make the compact interior really nice.

The central console seems separated from the dashboard. It is wide and more accommodating than even found in some larger vehicles. This also adds to the premium feel, as it creates the feeling of spaciousness despite the compact package.

The separated dashboard holds a number of easily accessible buttons and a large touchscreen tha tare obviously not afterthoughts, but it actually complements the design. It includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, looks great and works like a charm.

The 360 camera is simply outstanding. It has a number of views that would make parking of much larger vehicles a breeze.

We also love that Cadillac hasn’t succumbed to the whole digital craze completely and that there are several physical buttons that making use of while driving is a breeze. Positioning of the screen is also perfect. It is very close to the driver, so there is no stretching and it is angled for easier viewing. Also, it can be controlled from a central console knob aw well, if you don’t want to use the touchscreens.

There’s tons of storage space on the inside of the XT4. You can make use of a glovebox, two cup holders in the central console and more in the back, bins and trays, very deep central console bin, umbrella slots in doors, side central console slots and large door and front seatbacks pockets.

Finding a good driving position is easy thanks to great ergonomics and plenty of adjustment options. Seats are great, very comfortable and supportive and high belt line makes the interior feel cocooned and cozy. However, it never feels claustrophobic, especially with the panoramic sunroof.

We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of space in the rear seating area, especially considering that the XT4 is a compact SUV. Legroom is awesome and we especially love how high up the front seats are. This means that you can push your feet deep under the front seat, straightening your knees more than in some higher-class vehicles.

The rear is large and well shaped, with a low load lip and almost rectangular interior shape. This means it is very easy to load heavy or bulky loads. Furthermore, second row seatbacks fold flat for a massive and very useable space.

Of course, higher trim levels and optional packs make the XT4 a lot better, adding advanced safety and comfort features and better materials - but even the entry level model is a great experience.

Engines and Drive for the Cadillac XT4

The XT4 is powered by a 2 l turbo engine with 237 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque throughout a wide range from 1,500 to 4,000 RPM. Even though 2 l does not sound like much, the XT4 is a joy to drive. It is smooth, low down torque makes every acceleration effortless and the engine never feels stressed.

Part of the smoothness comes from the fact that the engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic which sends the push to either all four wheels of just the front.

When cruising peacefully, the engine can shut down two cylinders for improved fuel efficiency. Push the pedal harder and the cylinders activate immediately.

There is more than enough power for a car of this size. It is not aimed to be a sports car and cut corners, but overtaking is smooth and easy, merging onto motorways is a breeze  and getting up to legal speeds takes just a few seconds.

While driving you will enjoy a quiet cabin with active noise cancellation. Adaptive suspension is an option on the Sport model, and it comes with large 20” wheels. It makes driving a lot more engaging, but takes away some of the comfort. Still, if you are usually on well looked after city streets, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Trim Levels for the Cadillac XT4

There are three distinctive trim levels – Luxury, Premium Luxury and Sport. Premium Luxury and Sport have the same MSRP, while the Luxury stands below them as a more affordable, entry-level option.

The Luxury comes with auto start/stop system, battery rundown protection, AWD, electronic parking brake, dual exhaust tips, hill start assist, hill hold assist, intelligent brake assist, intelligent brake fade resistance, StabiliTrak, automatic headlamps, black lower fascia accent, glass, acoustic, laminated front-side and windshield, LED headlamps and taillamps, manual liftgate, 12V power outlets, 2-way power lumbar controls for the front seats, 4.2” driver information centre, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capable, 6-way power front seats, 60/40 split rear seats, active noise cancellation, heated steering wheel, cabin air filter, USB ports, cruise control, dual-zone climate, rearview camera, heated front and rear outbound seats, keyless entry, paddle shifters, passenger sensing system, rear air vents, remote start, SiriusXM, teen driver feature, rear park assist and more.

Optional features for the Luxury include engine block heater, heavy duty cooling, engine block heater, forward and reverse automatic braking, front pedestrian braking, low speed forward automatic braking, black moulded splash guards and wireless charging.

Premium Luxury adds automatic headlamps with tunnel detection, body coloured, heated, auto-dimming and power-folding outside mirror, illuminated door handles, power liftgate, automatic wipers, ambient lighting, driver memory, front and rear park assist, lane change alert with side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic alert and safety alert seat.

Optional features for the Premium Luxury include engine block heater, forward and reverse automatic braking, front pedestrian braking, heavy duty cooling, low speed forward automatic braking, black moulded splash guards, hands free liftgate, IntelliBeam, sunroof, 4-way power lumbar controls for the front seats, 8” driver information centre, adaptive cruise control, following distance indicator, enhanced visibility package, forward collision alert, HD surround view, HUD, air ionizer, lane keep assist, lane departure warning and wireless charging.

Sport is based on the Luxury as well and it adds a number of dedicated Sport trim design features and also automatic headlamps with tunnel detection, body-colour door handles, body coloured, heated, auto-dimming and power-folding outside mirror, gloss black longitudinal roof rails, power liftgate, automatic wipers, sport grille, 4-way power lumbar controls for the front seats, ambient lighting, driver memory, front and rear park assist, air ionizer, lane change alert with side blind zone alert, power driver seatback bolsters, rear cross traffic alert, safety alert seat, as well as a number of optional features such as active sport suspension, engine block heater, forward and reverse automatic braking, front pedestrian braking, heavy duty cooling, low speed forward, automatic braking, black moulded splash guards, roof mounted cross rails, hands free liftgate, IntelliBeam, sunroof, 8” driver information centre, adaptive cruise control, following distance indicator, enhanced visibility package, forward collision alert, HD surround view, HUD, lane keep assist and lane departure warning.

The two top trim levels also have the option of including many optional equipment packages. With so many optional features, you can really tailor your XT4 to suit your needs best.

Come Take a Look at a 2018 Cadillac ATS

The Cadillac ATS is lightweight, it packs modern efficient engines, and has unique, instantly recognizable styling, luxurious cabin and up to date tech. It is a great choice in a very tough market segment, which includes the likes of the latest Mercedes-Benz C Class, BMW 3 Series and Audi A4. This alone is enough to tell you that the ATS is a great car. Let’s have a closer look at it.

Design of the Cadillac ATS

If there’s one thing we can say about the ATS, it is that it definitely stands out from the crowd. Calling the ATS angular would be an understatement. The overall headlight and grille designs follow the design philosophy of some sedans from the same stable. They are unusual and complementing, working perfectly well with the similarly sharp hood lines and lower bumper details. Despite the designs aggression, the fact that all parts complement each other makes the ATS look rather elegant.

The lights are upright, following the fall of the hood and setting the borders for the bumper lights. Their shape is visible from the side as well and they add to the look of the front. From the side the front looks way more prominent than we are used to in the compact sedan segment.

The rear is similarly angular with the protruding middle line and upright taillights. The shape of the license plate clearly mimics the front grille and makes the whole car look conspicuous but harmonious at the same time.

Interior of the Cadillac ATS

Design of the interior is also vertical in the central section, with a high touchscreen placed between large air vents. Controls are close to the driver and there is no need to stretch for anything. Cup holders are available both at the front and back and there are other small storage spaces.

The seats are very supportive and comfortable. We especially love bolsters that keep the driver and the front passengers firmly in place.

The touchscreen is high up and very easy to read even on very sunny days. We also love the force of the haptic feedback from the touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard, as is Wi-Fi hotspot.

Engines and Drive of the Cadillac ATS

There are two engines available. The entry level one is a 2.0 turbo with 272 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, while the second option is a naturally aspirated 3.6 V6 335 hp and 285 lb-ft of torque. Both engines have direct injection and are paired with an 8-speed automatic.

There are also RWD and AWD versions of the ATS, both of which have their advantages. The AWD has loads of grip that keep the car in check, while the RWD gives that familiar feel of driving a front-engine car with rear wheel drive and heaps of power – driving fun in its essence.

The 2.0 has a turbocharger that gives it a healthy boost from very low revs, while the 3.6 is naturally aspirated, which gives it a very natural, smooth and predictable power buildup.

Both engines are relaxed in town, civilized and confident, but get them to the track and they turn into raging beasts. Optional sports exhaust adds to the soundtrack. Even though the V6 is definitely a more upmarket choice, the 2.0 is good enough to make you smile in the town, while overtaking or on the track.

Both of these engines seem even better due to the lightweight chassis on the ATS. The car is very agile and balanced, so it behaves predictably even if you throw the RWD version’s rear end. The steering is a bit heavier, which is also great for sporty driving. It is also precise, so directing the car in sporty conditions is by no means a guessing game.

Suspension is obviously trimmed for sporty driving, which makes it a bit stiffer on rough roads. However, we wouldn’t want it any other way, since precise handling just makes us so happy.

Optional Magnetic Ride Control is available on the ATS. It is a system that reads road conditions and adapts the suspension to suit. It is a system used on high-end vehicles and a great addition on the sporty ATS.

Trim Levels for the Cadillac ATS

There are four trim levels – base, Luxury, Premium Luxury and Premium Performance.

The base is graced with the 2.0 turbo engine and RWD so it is already good enough to provide great driving fun. With 272 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque in a lightweight body it is not like the push is lacking. If you like smooth and efficient shifts, you should go for the 8-speed automatic. However, if you want a bit more old-school involvement, you can go for the 6-speed manual. AWD is optional on the base trim level and only paired with the automatic.

The base is also pretty good when it comes to equipment. You get 17” wheels, Brembo brakes for the front, active aero grille shutters, LED taillights and a stop light in the rear spoiler, Bose Centerpoint sound system with 10 speakers, 2 USB ports, Bluetooth, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, 8” touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and voice recognition, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, 6-way adjustable seats with lumbar adjustment, wireless charging, OnStar safety and security system with automatic crash response, stolen vehicle assistance, roadside assistance and navigation, rearview camera, StabiliTrak, traction control and tire pressure monitoring system.

The Cadillac ATS also has additional optional features including different wheels, sunroof, heated seats and more.

Step up to Luxury and you get adaptive remote start with heated steering wheel, climate control and active heated seats, auto-dimming mirrors with puddle lamps and turn signal indicators, front and rear park assist, 110V household-style power outlet, 8-way seat adjustment, 60/40 split rear seats with armrest and cup holders. Optional features for this trim include vehicle indication sensor, steering column lock, following distance indicator, forward collision alert, lane change alert, side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, rain sensors, automatic high beam, additional airbags, Safety Alert Seat, improved seating materials and more adjustability options for the seats, sunroof and 18” polished forged alloy wheels.

Premium Luxury adds the 3.6 V6 as standard, but also following distance indicator, forward collision alert, lane change alert, side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, rain sensors, automatic high beam, additional airbags, Safety Alert Seat, alloy sport pedals, adaptive forward lighting, illuminating door handles, sunroof, all-season run-flat tires and many more available features such as vehicle inclination sensor, adaptive cruise control, forward and reverse automatic braking, full colour HUD, electronic parking brake, power tilt and telescoping steering column and more.

Premium Performance sits at the very top of the offer and adds LSD, full-colour HUD, power tilt and telescoping steering wheel, Magnetic Ride Control, dedicated 18” wheels and more optional features, including all optional safety and security perks from the lesser trim levels.

Explore the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox

The Equinox is a compact crossover SUV designed to compete with models that stem from the downsizing trend. It is both fuel efficient and capable, but it also stands out from much of the crowd with luxury and quality rarely found in this class and price range.

A full redesign came in 2018, which also means that the 2019 model is up to date both in terms of styling and features - which now include things like 360 camera, forward collision warning and three downsized engine options, including a diesel.

Design of the Chevrolet Equinox

The design of the Equinox is a mixture of modern SUV directions and modern Chevrolet style. Looking at the front, we can see a sculpted hood with sharp lines and a narrow section with the Chevrolet emblem between the headlights. The hood and front are reminiscent of more aggressive Chevrolet models including the sporty Camaro. The lower front is bulky, with a prominent grille and pronounced chrome surround, which is now common on many small SUVs.

Design of the vehicles profile tries to marry style and practicality. Door creases and chrome window surrounds look modern, and the rearmost side window is angled and sharp. However, that section also adds to the practicality of the Equinox, as its addition gives more headroom and adds an overall airy feeling in what is otherwise a compact cabin.

The line that surrounds the central console adds a lot of style, and a high-placed touchscreen is very close to the steering wheel and easy to use. Modern climate controls are not hidden behind the gearbox stick as it is in many other cars. Higher trim levels and optional packs bring many more features and better materials which make the Equinox more luxurious than most of its competitors.

We also have to emphasize how practical the Equinox is in busy city conditions. For example, doors are narrow and they open really wide, which is a great advantage in parking spaces. You can open the door wide and access seats with ease even in tight parking spaces.

The Equinox is roomy, especially in the front. Rear seats are also pretty accommodating for this class of vehicle. Cabin storage is also good. There are cup holders, bottle holders, bins, trays and pockets, as well as spaces for mobile phones. The latter are covered in rubber so that your phone does not slide.

The infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and voice controls work like a charm.

Engines and Drive of the Chevrolet Equinox

There are three engine options for the Chevrolet Equinox – two turbo gasoline and one turbo diesel.

The entry level engine available on all trim levels is a 1.5 l turbo gasoline with VVT and direct injection. It produces 170 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque from 2000 revs. It is paired exclusively with a six-speed automatic, while other engines can be paired with an optional nine-speed auto.

The second option is a 2.0 turbo gasoline with 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It also features VVT and direct injection, as well as dual-outlet exhausts. Its spike in power compared to the base engine is noticeable and the Equinox with this engine provides a confident push.

The last option is a 1.6 turbo diesel with 137 hp and 240 lb-ft from as low as 2000 revs. It is the perfect choice for anyone who favors fuel efficiency. The low-rev diesel torque makes it interesting to drive as you have a feeling it has more power that it actually does.

Many small SUVs have a problem with bumps on the road. Some of the issues come from a relatively small wheelbase, but in many cases, it is about stiff suspension. Well, not in the Equinox. It soaks up bumps very well. It is remarkable how accurately Chevrolet engineers hit the soft spot between comfort and handling.

Trim Levels of the Chevrolet Equinox

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox comes in three different trim levels – LS, LT and Premier. The Chevrolet Equinox LS comes only with the 1.5 l gasoline engine and 6-speed automatic. Other standard features include ABS, Duralife brake rotors, brake assist and hill start assist, StabiliTrak electronic stability, traction control, 17” wheels, active aero shutters, power mirrors with black caps, rearview camera, keyless entry and start, remote starter, 3.5” display for the Driver Information Centre, tire pressure monitoring, air conditioning, cruise control, premium cloth seats, heated front seats, 60/40 split rear seats, 7” screen with MyLink, Teen Driver feature, rear seat reminder, Bluetooth connectivity, USB port, OnStar Safety and Security Plan for the first month and 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot.

The Chevrolet Equinox LT adds HID headlights, body-coloured mirror caps, leather wrapped gear knob, 8-way power adjustable driver seat with power lumbar adjuster and SiriusXM Radio with 3-month subscription.

The Premier adds LED headlamps and fog lamps, turn signal indicators in power mirrors with chrome caps, 18” wheels, lane change alerts, side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic alert, rear park assist, programmable power rear liftgate, LED tail lamps, dual zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, 4.2” driver information screen, leather wrapped steering wheel, perforated leather seats, ambient lighting on instrument panel, 8” touchscreen, additional USB ports, 120-volt AC power outlet and wireless charging.

Many of the features are available on lower trim levels as optional and there are six optional packages – three for the LT and three for the Premier. Some of them add styling features, while others add comfort and safety. For example, the Confidence and Convenience II package is available for the Premier trim and it makes the Equinox a much more advanced vehicle with features such as low speed forward automatic braking, forward collision alert, following distance indicator, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, 360 camera with bird’s-eye view, safety alert driver seat, IntelliBeam automatic headlamps, ventilated front bucket seats, power 8-way front-passenger seat adjuster with power 2-way lumbar adjuster, heated rear outboard seats and heated steering wheel.

Experience Class with the Cadillac Escalade

The latest Cadillac Escalade is all you’d expect it to be. It is a full-size luxury SUV, designed to meet the latest standards, bathed in plush materials and packed with the latest tech. It also offers lots of trim levels, optional packs, individual equipment choices and accessories. If you are looking for a large family SUV, the Escalade may be the choice for you.

Design of the Cadillac Escalade

The Escalade is massive. It is not always easy to make something of this size look appealing, but Cadillac has done it. The Escalade is stylish and unmistakably American. The grille is huge, sharp and accompanied by similar headlights.

It seems that the aim of the designers was not to make beautiful parts, but have the complete picture look harmonious. This is why every part of the Escalade has a connection with another part – the headlights outer line continues on the fog lights; the foglights lower part’s width matches that of the lower intake in the middle and the sides of the intake continue the angle of the sides of the grille – even though neither of these parts is directly connected with any other.

The Escalade looks sharp and bulky. There are many sharp lines and, with a vehicle of this size, it is a very good approach. Trying to hide this kind of a size with wavy shapes would make it look clumsy. This way, the Escalade looks elegant and confident.

Interior of the Cadillac Escalade

Luxury, quality and elegance - these are the main features of the interior of the Cadillac Escalade. Even in the base trim level the Escalade is beautifully sculpted, filled with tech and bathed in soft-touch materials.

There is plenty of space, especially in the first two rows, while the ESV model adds even more for both the second and third rows.

In spite of its large size, all of the controls are located near the driver. Everything is at hand and the instruments are clear and easy to read.

Getting into the third row is a breeze. The second row seats move and tumble to allow access. Moreover, optional retractable steps make getting into the Escalade even easier.

In the standard version, no person in the first and second rows will want for more headroom or legroom. The third row is perfectly sized for children. However, if you choose the ESV model, you will get even more space for the second row and adult-rated third row.

Depending on the trim level, available equipment can make your Escalade a real example of luxury, both in terms of tech and design.

Engine and Drive of the Cadillac Escalade

All Escalades, regardless of the trim level, are powered by a 6.2 l V8 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft o torque. The V8 is paired with a 10-speed automatic and power is transmitted to the rear wheels as standard or all wheels as an optional feature.

Despite the massive body and weight-adding luxury, the engine is more than enough to push the Escalade with ease. Torque is ever-present so acceleration feels effortless. Moreover, the latest 10-speed automatic allows great accuracy in choosing the preferred rev range.

Steering and handling are surprisingly good. It is easy to steer with precision. One of the reasons for this is the fact that the steering wheel requires a bit more turning than usual. However, this also allows you to choose your direction with surgical precision. Speaking of precision, the brake pedal also has a long travel, which allows you to dose the pressure with ease.

Expectedly, there is some body roll, but the Escalade is not meant to cut corners anyway. It is a confident, luxurious family cruiser - and perfect as that.

Trim Levels for the Cadillac Escalade

There are four trim levels, called Escalade, Escalade Luxury, Escalade Premium Luxury and Escalade Platinum. Furthermore, each of these has an ESV version that further improves on the luxury, space and tech.

The Escalade in the base trim already comes with plenty of advanced features. In terms of infotainment, it comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, Wi-Fi hot spot capability, Bose Centerpoint Surround Sound with 16 speakers and a 12” instruments screen that can be reconfigured to suit your preference.

In terms of comfort, looks and convenience, the base trim level gives power, LED headlights and taillights, 20” wheels, fold-flat third row of seats and manual release second row with fold-and-tumble function, heated and ventilated first row and heated second row of seats, height-programmable liftgate, power liftgate, leather seats and 12-way power adjustability for the first row, power tilt and telescoping steering wheel with memory, leather steering wheel, heated steering wheel and wireless charging function.

When it comes to safety, the entry trim is also amazing with automatic parking assist, surround vision with birds eye view, Magnetic Ride Control with driving modes and rearview camera with parking sensors.

Escalade Luxury adds 22” wheels, loads of safety perks including Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Safety Alert Seat, Lane Change Alert with Side-Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking and IntelliBeam automatic high beam on/off headlamps, rearview mirror that streams video from the reversing camera, head-up display, power release for the second row, sunroof and Theft Deterrent Package.

The Premium Luxury adds Driver Assist Package that includes adaptive cruise control with full-speed range, automatic braking both for going forward and in reverse, but also individual features such as 9” overhead screen for the rear seats, Blu-Ray compatibility, two sets of two-channel wireless headphones and remote control, LED cornering lamps and illumination for the door handles on the outside.

At the very top you will find the Escalade Platinum. The entry level is already amazingly plush and the two in-between options add a lot more, but the Platinum puts the Escalade at the top of the luxury SUV category. Just some of the improvements include things like dedicated semi-Aniline leather seats for the first two rows and Mulan leather for the third one, premium leather-covered upper door trim, premium floor mats, instrument panel and console, cooler in the center console, suede-microfiber cover for the headliner and pillars, 18-way power adjustment for the front seats, dedicated 22” wheels and grille, illuminated door sills with ‘Platinum’ inscription, 7” screens in first-row headrests and power assist steps.

Moreover, the ESV versions add a bit more in terms of luxury, as well as unmatched space for the second and third rows. If all this is not enough for you, you can opt for individual optional features or accessories and make your Escalade a truly unique one.

The Cadillac Escalade is a truly luxurious option for you and your family to cruise in style. At CMP Chevrolet CadillacBuick GMC we’re happy to show you the vehicle of your dreams and answer any questions you may have. Cruise Away in a Chevrolet Cruze

The latest iteration of the Chevrolet Cruze comes with a fresh new design, more tech features, better handling and improved infotainment. Let’s see how much better these improvements make the vehicle.

The Cruze is a compact family car and this is a very tough segment to compete in. Cars in this class need to be relatively affordable, but also offer the design, tech, safety and space that a young family needs. That is a tough challenge, but Chevrolet seems to have done it with the latest Cruze.

Exterior Furnishings of the Chevrolet Cruze

The front of the new Cruze is noticeably different from past models, with a more modern front fascia, sharper grille hugged by elongated lights, and a more massive lower section. The rear and sides of the vehicle also get new features, the most notable changes being a new taillight design and completely new wheel options. The cars body comes in the form of either a roomy sedan or sleek hatchback version.

Interior Comfort of the Chevrolet Cruze

Getting in the Cruze is very easy. All doors open wide and the roof is high up to accommodate taller people.

The inside features an all-new 7” touchscreen that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Faux leather is an option and this is also a change when compared to the previous model - which featured real leather.

There is plenty of room for four adults in the spacious cabin. You’ll be impress at how easily you’ll find a good driving position, regardless of your respective height. Of course, front passengers will have more leg room than people in the back, but the vehicle is roomy throughout.

Moreover, ergonomics in the vehicle are really good. Everything is at hand and easy to use. 643 l of space in the trunk of the larger hatchback is really impressive, while folding the rear bench seat gives a massive 1336 l of cargo space.

Depending on the trim level you choose, you get up to 4 cup holders, 4 bottle holders, wireless charging slot and several spaces for smaller items.

Engines and Drive of the Chevrolet Cruze

There are two engines available for the new Chevrolet Cruze. The most common one is a 1.4 l turbo gasoline with 153 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission which transfers the power to the front wheels. This option feels more welcome on the open roads where its torque is of more use.

The second option is a 1.6 l diesel unit with 137 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. Even though it has less power, the increased torque in this model, and its low revs availability greatly improve the feel behind the wheel. Moreover, it has a nine-speed gearbox, so finding the perfect revs is a lot easier. This improves noise reduction, fuel efficiency, and creates a feeling of effortless acceleration.

Even though the Chevrolet Cruze is not made to carve corners on twisty roads, its handling could surprise you. It is very enjoyable, responsive and gives great feedback for a small car. When in low speed conditions such as parking, the steering lightens to increase comfort, however, as you speed up it becomes heavier to give you more control and precision.

Trim Levels in the New Chevrolet Cruze

There are four trim levels named the L, LS, LT, Diesel and Premier. Of course, along with these trim levels, you can choose a number of option packs.

The L is available only in the sedan form and it comes with 15” steel wheels, remote locking, auto headlights, Bluetooth, air conditioning, USB ports, OnStar with Wi-Fi hotspot, rear view camera, 60/40 folding rear seats and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The LS has all of the features that the L has, but adds armrests and carpet floor mats. This trim level also has a dedicated Convenience pack that increases the wheel diameter by an inch and adds a multi-function steering wheel and cruise control.

The LT has all of the previously mentioned goodies and adds an armrest with cup holders and a USB port for the rear passengers, LED daytime running lights, satellite radio, an improved sound system and more. The LT is accompanied by more optional equipment packs. The first one is called Driver Confidence pack and it introduces advanced safety features such as rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring, as well as parking sensors for the rear. The second equipment pack is called Convenience and it goes a step further with features like a power-adjustable seat for the driver, heated front seats and mirrors and keyless start and entry. More optional packs are RS Appearance which adds fog lights, a rear spoiler, and Sun and Sound pack with a sunroof and Bose audio system.

The Diesel trim’s most notable feature is, of course, its diesel engine. Moreover, this engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic, providing a reassuring ride often held in the most comfortable revs. In terms of equipment, it packs everything that the previously described trim levels offer and adds a Preferred pack which comes with faux leather upholstery and a heated steering wheel.

At the very top of the lineup you will find the Premier trim level. Aside from all the previously mentioned features, the Premier adds 17” wheels, chrome details on the outside, better suspension system at the back, beautiful ambient interior lighting and vanity mirrors with illumination. This trim level also gets several optional packs, including the RS Appearance which adds 18” wheels and a more aggressive body kit to the fog lights and spoiler from the same pack for the LT trim. Another optional pack for the Premier is the Driver Confidence 2 pack. It comes with Auto Emergency Braking (AEB), lane keep assist, forward collision warning and automatic high beams.

The Corvette Battle – 2018 Stingray vs Z06

The Stingray and the Z06 are positioned at the opposite sides of the Corvette lineup – the Stingray being the entry level option and the Z06 the most hardcore version to date. So, which one should you buy?

The Corvette has been one of the most revered sports cars for decades now, with its distinctive styling, powerful V8 engine and well-earned reputation. The latest version of the car comes in several different models and trim levels which can make much of a difference both to the feeling behind the wheel and the cost involved. So, which should you buy – the Stingray or its beefier cousin the ZO6?

If money is not an issue, close this article and go buy the Z06. However, if you are a mere mortal like many aspiring Corvette owners, read on to see if the Z06 is actually worth the extra buck.

Both the Stingray and the Z06 fall under the current, seventh generation C7 Corvette. The C7 marks a major stylistic departure from the previous rounded forms, which upset many a purist. However, it also manages to successfully marry some nods to the old days (including the Stingray name for the first time since the early 1980s) and contemporary design cues inspired by the modern Camaro’s stylistic direction, creating an aggressive and unique body style.

Aside from the new, significantly sharper looks, the new design also advances aerodynamics, air flow and cooling, which inevitably improves the performance and dynamics of the Corvette. But more about that below.

What even the purists don’t mind is the fact that the C7 Corvette also marks a significant improvement in the luxury and comfort of the Corvette interior. The C7 Corvette is simply a lot better than the previous generation. The interior is more driver oriented, covered in fine materials, and with impeccable fit and finish.

The driver’s zone includes a racing-derived steering wheel, clear instruments, MyLink infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a massive, reassuring central console. The passenger enjoys the same levels of comfort and quality, but understandably lacks the control that the driver has. The elements that the passenger can use are the climate control settings for the right side of the vehicle, and a special handle grip for when the pedal goes to the metal.

Speaking of performance, it was expected that we would get more power in the new generation of Corvettes – and we have – but the dynamics of the new car greatly surpassed even the highest expectations. The C7 Corvette provides matching or better driving agility than that of some of the most desirable sports cars in the world. And yes, those sharp cuts on the design front help greatly.

Today we are in 2018 - the fourth model year of the C7. Just like many other stunning creations, it has aged rather well and it is now at that perfect point in its lifespan when its design is still fresh and up to date, while several years of fine tuning experience has made the 2018 model a true work of art.

All of the above stands true for both the 2018 Stingray and the 2018 Z06. But, let’s see what sets them apart.

The 2018 Corvette Stingray

The 2018 Stingray employs a naturally aspirated small-block, LT1 V8 which produces 455 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque from 6.2 l of displacement. The engine is an engineering marvel – simple, yet modern, highly efficient and screams wonderfully in high revs.

It employs modern engineering solutions such as direct injection for improved fuel efficiency and power; variable valve timing for adaptive camshaft operation improving horsepower and torque over a wider rpm range; seamless cylinder deactivation tech which further improves fuel efficiency in low load conditions… all of this in a package made of heavy-duty, but weight-reducing materials.

The engine is paired with either a 7-speed manual with active rev matching, or an 8-speed automatic with a paddle-shifted manual mode. Both the engaging manual and the lightning-fast automatic work like a charm and complement the engine.

The C7 has a mode selector with 5 distinct driving modes, providing a change in character for the car that’s based on the weather conditions and driving functionality you need. Bad weather? No problem. Low on fuel? Go ECO. Need a boost? Choose the SPORT mode. The TRACK mode goes a notch higher, and turns the already capable machine into a proper beast. Or maybe you just want to cruise. Opt for the default TOUR mode and enjoy the comfort of a daily driver.

All of these features, and many more, translate to a 0-60 time of 3.7 s and an impressive quarter-mile time of 11.9 seconds. With awe inspiring stats like these, what could the more hardcore Z06 possibly bring to the table?

The 2018 Corvette Z06 – A beast on the road, and the track

Z06 is the most powerful production Corvette ever. Slap on the optional Z07 performance pack and it will sprint to 60 in 2.95 seconds, and cover the quarter-mile run in 10.95 seconds.

The improvement comes from a number of features including racing-based dry sump, titanium intake valves and electronic limited-slip differential for improved traction, stability and responsiveness. The Z06 also handles better, thanks to both advanced tech and 56 mm wider front and 80 mm wider rear, which creates a more aggressive stance and improves stability both for cornering and high-speed runs.  Engine, brakes, transmission and differential cooling and aerodynamics are improved through the use of larger, cleverly placed vents and two aero packages. The Z06 also has perfect 50/50 weight distribution, which makes handling even more precise and enjoyable.

Some of these features are available on the Stingray model as optional perks, and yet they do not make it as fast as the figures from above suggest. The main difference lies in something that the Stingray does not have even as an option.

A 1.7 l Eaton supercharger aided by a dual-brick air-to-liquid intercooler makes all the difference. The forced induction results in a massive boost in power reaching a very satisfying 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. That’s well above the base Stingray, making the Z06 a proper track beast – faster, more powerful, more responsive and precise!

Of course, both versions have a number of optional customization features with countless combinations to make your C7 Corvette unique, and tailored to suit your discerning style and needs.

So, with this all in mind, is the Corvette Z06 worth the extra buck? Hopefully this article was helpful, but you won’t truly know until you sit down in one and feel the power for yourself!
